See ME First NHS Badges promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity
We are incredibly proud to produce the badges for Whittington Health NHS Trust’s See ME First staff-led initiative launched in Oct 2020 to promote equality, diversity and inclusivity. We work closely with the creators of this initiative - Delia Mills, Beverleigh Senior and Paul Attwal. They are a great team and advocate for implementing change in NHS organisations nationwide.
They provide toolkits for the NHS organisations to implement this initiative within their hospitals, and we are the sole supplier authorised to produce these badges for the organisations that pledge their support to this campaign.
The badges are made in Soft Enamel, 30mm in size (either rectangle or circle in shape), nickel plating, eight colours, with epoxy resin, and our MBC backstamp can be found on the reverse. We also process all orders for these badges at Made By Cooper; once you have received and signed up for the toolkit from Whittington Health, we are then authorised to quote for these badges.
Pledging to this campaign and wearing a See ME First badge is a symbol to send the critical message:
- I belong to an open, non-judgmental, and inclusive NHS organisation that treats all Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (B.A.M.E.) staff with dignity and respect.
- I uphold Whittington Health’s values of being innovative, compassionate, accountable, respectful and excellent. This will include listening to colleagues and speaking up when necessary.
- I am sending the message that “you can talk to me” about Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic related issues, and I understand what to do if I think a situation requires escalation. (Please note, you are not expected to solve all their issues and concerns, but you are a friendly ear and will know how to signpost).
- People should “not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character” (Dr Martin Luther King Jr - 'I Have a Dream', 28 August 1963).
The initiative has been adopted in 20 organisations across the NHS so far, and we look forward to producing more See ME First badges for those who sign up in the coming months.
